Jason and I met at the beginning of our senior year in college at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse. We lived in the same apartment complex and started chatting one evening at Brothers downtown. We had a few drinks and hung out for the next couple of weekends. We went on our first official date to a Brad Paisley concert in La Crosse and have been together ever since…
Our relationship grew stronger over the next couple of years… We met each other’s extended families, attended holidays together, and survived the long distance when Jason moved to Milwaukee and I was finishing up graduate school in La Crosse. Eventually I got a job in the Milwaukee area and we moved in together. It has been tradition in my family to always travel to Iowa to visit my dad’s side of the family for Thanksgiving. For three years in a row, my mom, sister, and I went shopping in Sioux City on Black Friday and visited my cousin, Breanne, at Gunderson’s and I tried on rings. On my third trip to Gunderson’s, Jason was finally with us so I thought, yay, we can finally look at rings together! Well I had to do some convincing – so much convincing that tears seemed to be the only way I could physically get him into the store! Little did I know that Jason had already contacted Breanne and my custom made engagement ring was sitting on her desk!
On December 20, 2008, we decided to celebrate Christmas together. We went out for an early dinner and then were going to go back home to open presents. Well, Jason went the wrong way on the freeway and we ended up at Sybaris in Mequon, WI, a couples hotel that has pool suites. I was pretty confused because I hadn't packed any overnight clothes or a swimsuit, so I thought maybe I was just getting a massage. Jason checked in and as the door to our suite opened, my mouth dropped to the floor. We had our own private pool, hot tub, and sauna, there were rose petals on the bed, and a bottle of champagne chilling! We walked around the room in awe and Jason still had his coat on. He then pulled out a little black box from his coat pocket and got down on one knee...I said YES!!!!!!!!!!
