PROPOSAL STORY:
It was a pretty normal Friday. Emma had the day off and spent it planting flowers around the house, totally unaware that Zak had something much bigger planned for later.
Zak worked all day and then headed to flight school that evening. While flying, he missed a call from David, the sales rep at Gunderson’s, who left a voicemail saying he had a surprise for Zak.
Zak had actually planned to propose the next day — but it worked out perfectly that David called that night.
On the drive home, Zak called Emma to see if she was making supper or if he should grab something. During the call, he mentioned that Gunderson’s had called — and the running joke between them was that if Zak ever bought Emma a ring, Emma would have to buy him a Rolex.
When Zak got home, he played David’s voicemail for Emma. After listening, she said, “He never said your watch came in, just that he had a surprise for you.” Zak laughed and said, “Better get your checkbook ready!” Emma replied, “I don’t have a ring yet, so I’m not buying you a watch.” Zak smirked and said, “I bet you’d lose it if I went and got you a ring.”
While Emma focused on finishing supper, Zak disappeared into the garage (which didn’t seem unusual — classic Zak move). A few minutes later, he came back inside holding a cardboard Johnstone Supply box and told her to open it.
Emma opened the box and saw a Gunderson’s Jewelry box inside. Without thinking much of it, she said, “Those are just your mom’s earrings for Mother’s Day,” but Zak kept insisting. So, she opened it — backwards — felt around inside, closed it, and went right back to cooking. Zak told her to open it again, so she did.
Right as she turned the box around, Zak pulled out his phone and started recording. Emma opened the box, saw the ring, said, “That’s not mine,” closed it, and set it on the counter.
With dinner still on the stove, Zak asked the question that would begin their forever — and Emma tearfully said yes!
